Corruption is a Silent Killer

Leyte Convention Center - this building is newly built and located in the vicinity of the government center in the town of Palo Leyte. The purpose of this building is to boost tourism and economic development of the region. But unfortunately this building is not durable cannot handle a strong typhoon like super typhoon yolanda(haiyan). This building is worth millions of pesos but why still totally destroyed just like a shanty house. This is not reported in the national tv because its normal to see a building like this in leyte. This building built by Petilla`s Clan to match the Tacloban Convention Center. The`re many substandard building that built by the politician here in the Philippines and Leyte Convention Center is one of those thousands substandard projects. Petilla`s Clan is also known "Kapit Tuko" Clan in Leyte no major allies in politics. Their purpose is to save their image and to keep them in the position.

And now they`re Planning to transfer the provincial capitol building from its present location on Barangay 3 and 4, this city, to Barangay Campetic of Palo. And its worth 50billion Pesos and this is their priority instead of constructing a shelter and relocating the victim of super typhoon yolanda. They`re close with the president and this budget is not possible to approved because of their connection with the president. They also spent Php250k for the fireworks of their fiesta in Palo, Leyte this year 2014. And another Php300k for the price of the competition of Pintados Festival in Palo.

“This is just like a fortress that can generate its own potable water, electricity and communications. In case (supertyphoon like) Yolanda happen again, we will be ready and government will have a more focus area in which to operate on,” Loreto said

Are they really capable of doing such a strong and durable building? just like what Governor Carlo Loreto Petilla said. Even their first project is destroy in an instant with 315 km/h wind. And his brother is in the top 10 most riches cabinet of PNOY with P117,095,110 in his SALN.

Tacloban Convention Center - this building built couple years ago and proposed project by former Mayor of Tacloban City, Mayor Bejo Romauldez. And this building has been survived by the storm surge of super typhoon yolanda and became a evacuation center before and after super typhoon landfall in the Leyte on Nov. 8, 2013. This building fought not just wind with 315km/h but also water with 1-4 story building height. Before the super typhoon yolanda landfall, this building has been proven that it can handle a strong typhoon. Because this building also survive  with the strong earthquake on August 31, 2012 with magnitude 7.6. This building used as a temporary shelter for how many months after super typhoon yolanda landfall in Leyte. With the help of this building the death toll reduced by more or less 1,000 individuals or families.

If the`re no corruption here in the Philippines maybe we are not in a worst situation right now. The worth million or billions infrastructure project is not suitable to its cost. Because most of the infrastructure project the is cost is undue to its quality.
